If you haven't already, do yourself a favor and get a ReverbNation account STAT! You'd be doing yourself a disservice if you don't at least give it a shot. You will probably find mixed reviews when you research online, but I promise you it was designed to make your life easier by providing an integrated platform to manage and build your music career.
ReverbNation describes itself as "a powerful career management and online marketing tool, combined with rapidly growing A&R capabilities and broad industry relationships that offer emerging artists from around the world access to the global music industry." So what are some these tools? This includes an online profile that allows you to put all your music, videos, performance schedules and social profiles in one place while building and reaching fans simultaneously. It also generates a digital press-kit on your behalf which is automatically included with every opportunity you submit to. And what's crazy is this resource is offered absolutely FREE! You can then upgrade to receive advanced features and tool add-ons. Personally, I opt-in for the premium service at $19.95 per month and this allots me unlimited submissions to opportunities with A&Rs, music festivals, radio play, music publications and more. It's pretty dope actually and once you have your music uploaded to your profile, the submission is an easy one-click process.
It also has a solid email marketing tool that allows you to connect and engage with fans that sign up to your mailing list through your profile. And I suggest taking advantage of its online widgets and embed the html code to your website to optimize your email marketing efforts. If you become a premium member, you get access to discounts through its music marketplace from partnered brands including ArtistShare, MessagePro, IndieBible, SoundBetter (which I briefly discussed in my previous post), and Easy Disc to name a few.
One of the most valuable features I have used is the crowd reviews where you receive anonymous feedback and ratings of your music (you too remain anonymous to the reviewer so its completely unbiased). If you score a rating of 7.5 or higher you get entered in a chance to win a spot on the ReverbNation homepage as a sponsored artist garnering exposure to millions of site visitors. Either way you gain valuable insights about the general sentiment listeners have towards your music and it pushes you to up your game the next time around. Besides, as an artist you want to continue to grow lyrically, sonically, and professionally and that starts with receiving and accepting constructive criticism. And if you have a monthly budget allotted towards advertising, ReverbNation offers display ads and can help you promote your music and reach thousands of users on top music sites including Billboard, MTV, Complex, BET, and XXL.
At this point, I hope I've convinced you to at least sign up for a free online account. You have nothing to lose and far more to gain by doing so. I could go on and on about all the tools and additional features ReverbNation has to offer, because the list really is that extensive. You would think I work for the company the way I'm gassing it up, but it I mean when I say it is extremely resourceful and vital to helping you build your fan base and elevate your music career. So time to level up.
